Breast Augmentation

For the woman who feels her breast size is too small, or not properly contoured, cosmetic breast surgery can be the answer. Also known as augmentation mammoplasty, this procedure involves using either an implant filled with silicone or an implant filled with saline (salt water) solution to increase fullness and projection of your breasts. Breast augmentation can also fulfill your desire to restore breast volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss.

Implants are placed either under the muscle (submuscular) or under the existing breast tissue (subglandular) to create the desired volume. Patients are encouraged to choose the size implants they feel will best enhance their breasts and give them their desired outcome. Our staff is available to assist in this important decision.

Breast Lift

Breast lift raises and helps to firm the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and lift the breast for a more complimentary figure.

Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and the force of gravity take their toll on a woman's breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag. Breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts--at least for a time. (No surgery can permanently delay the effects of gravity.) Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. If your breasts are small or have lost volume--for example, after pregnancy--breast implants inserted in conjunction with mastopexy can increase both the firmness and the size. If you're considering a breast lift, Dr. Chase can provide specific information on how to proceed in your particular situation.

Breast Reduction

For women who desire smaller breasts, Dr. Chase can reduce the size of the breast through the removal of breast tissue, then reshape the smaller breast. Women with very large, pendulous breasts may experience a variety of medical problems, caused by the excessive weight, from back and neck pain or skin irritation to skeletal deformities and breathing problems.

Bra straps may leave indentations in women's shoulders. Additionally, unusually large breasts can make a woman, or teenage girl, feel extremely self-conscious. Breast reduction, technically known as reduction mammoplasty, is designed for such women. The procedure removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts to achieve a breast size in proportion to your body. It can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. After surgery women can participate in activities they only dreamed of before such as jogging, playing tennis or golf. They may now find bras that fit in regular department stores, and have less difficulty finding tops that fit properly. Most women are extremely delighted with the weight of the breasts gone and the preoperative medical problems improved.

Body Contouring after Weight Loss

Body contouring is suggested after major weight loss when there are unwanted amounts of excess skin which hangs or sags. The skin and tissues often lack elasticity and cannot conform to the reduced body size. The areas that may be improved with surgical procedures include: upper arms, breasts, abdominal area- this may extend around the sides and into the lower back area, buttocks, and thighs. Surgical body contouring helps to shape and tone the underlying tissue that supports fat and skin. The result is a smoother contour and more natural appearance to the body.

The procedures necessary to achieve your goals will be discussed during the consultation as well as the timing of these procedures to complete the final phase of your total weight loss experience. Before you decide to undergo body contouring surgery we encourage you to be stabilized in your weight loss.

Liposuction body sculpting (or suction-assisted lipectomy) has become one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed today. Minimal scarring and outstanding results have made it the preferred method for removing fat from the hips, thighs, buttocks and abdomen, as well as areas of the face, neck and arms. Liposuction is not an alternative to weight reduction, but can be very effective in removing fat from areas that do not respond to diet and exercise programs.

Suction-assisted lipectomy is performed by Dr. Chase in an outpatient surgery center. A narrow tube (cannula) is inserted into a small incision made in an inconspicuous place to loosen excess fat using a controlled back and forth motion. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum. Liposuction can eliminate the excess inches; it is effective and efficient. You will be asked to wear a compression garment while you recover to assist the body in reshaping. Most people are able to do normal activities within a week or two and can resume full aerobic activities by 4 to 6 weeks after liposuction.

Tummy Tuck

Also known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck removes excess fat and skin and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall creating a silhouette that is smoother and firmer. The best candidates for abdominoplasty are men or women who are in relatively good shape but are bothered by a large fat deposit and loose abdominal skin that won't respond to diet or exercise. The surgery is particularly helpful to women who, through multiple pregnancies, have stretched their abdominal muscles and skin beyond the point where it can return to normal.

A full tummy tuck requires a horizontal incision in the area between the pubic hairline and the navel. Incision size is determined by the degree of correction needed. When correction is isolated to the area below the belly button a mini tummy tuck with a shorter incision may be recommended. Liposuction is often performed in conjunction with a tummy tuck to enhance the final result.

Mommy Makeover

Once a woman has completed her family she may decide she needs to rejuvenate her body. We offer a combination of procedures to help restore and correct the areas of concern. The breasts and abdomen are the most common areas that women would like to see improvement. A combination of breast augmentation, breast lift, tummy tuck and liposuction can be performed together or in separate stages. We will try to accomplish these "Mommy Makeovers" to help women feel better about their bodies after the changes from childbirth and nursing. Please feel free to discuss these and other concerns with Dr. Chase.

Face Lift

Environmental factors, stress, and genetics can leave one with an aged appearance. Wrinkled skin can develop on the face, neck or forehead, along with fat deposits and folds around the jaws and jowls. While a facelift can't stop the aging process, in many cases it can improve the visible signs of aging and give you a rejuvenated appearance.

Facelifts can be performed alone, or with other cosmetic procedures such as eyelid or forehead surgery. Depending on the area to be treated, facelifts usually involve incisions made along the hairline, which extend around the ears to the lower scalp. The skin is lifted away from the fat and muscle underneath, and excess fat can be removed, sculpted or redistributed. Then Dr. Chase repositions the underlying tissue and the skin is tightened and redraped over the uplifted deeper tissues and excess skin is trimmed away. Sutures are placed to close the incisions.

Swelling and minor discomfort last a few days, and stitches are usually removed within a week.

Brow Lift

Deep furrows on the forehead, frown lines over the eyes, drooping eyebrows and hood-like skin over the eyes are all conditions that can make you look older than you are or feel. Whether age or heredity causes these conditions, a forehead lift (or brow lift) can give you a more youthful, animated and alert appearance.

Two small incisions are made on either side near the temple area, just above the hairline. This incision allows the tissue and muscle beneath the skin to be repositioned, altered or removed which corrects the source of visible creases in the forehead and improves a low positioned or sagging brow. The incision is closed using sutures and staples. Brow lifts may be performed alone, or along with other procedures such as a facelift or eyelid surgery.

Most patients are on their feet in a couple of days, and back to work within two weeks. Healing will continue for several weeks as swelling dissipates and incision lines flatten and fade.

Ear "Pinning"

Ears that appear to stick out or are overly large can be helped by ear surgery. Ear surgery, or Otoplasty, is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to head or to reduce the size of large ears. This operation can be performed on children and adults who feel ridiculed or self-conscious about the appearance of their ears.

This procedure can be performed under local anesthesia in the office or at surgical center. The incisions are made in the crease on the back of the ear to expose ear cartilage. Sutures are then placed in the cartilage to pull back and reshape the ear. After ear surgery the patient should expect to have a bulky bandage on their head for a few days. After this bandage is removed a wrap that resembles a head band will be worn, especially at night to protect the fragile post-operative condition of the ears. Activities that could bend the ears should be avoided for at least a month after surgery.

Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid Lift (or blepharoplasty) is a procedure to improve the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both, giving you a rejuvenated appearance and making you look more rested and alert. Blepharoplasty can help with loose or sagging eyelid skin of the upper eyelid, bags under the eyes, or excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid.

Eyelid surgery may be performed under local anesthesia with sedation in an outpatient surgery center. Dr. Chase will make tiny incisions along the natural lines of your eyelids, through which excess fat and skin are removed. The incisions are closed with fine sutures, which will leave scars that are practically invisible.

Most patients are back to their normal routines within days, although complete recovery may take a few weeks. Swelling, bruising and some discomfort are part of the recovery process, and usually can be alleviated with cold compresses and appropriate medication.

Cosmetic Injectables

Cosmetic injectables are temporary ways of reducing the appearance of wrinkles on the face. Botox, Dysport Restylane are offered at Chase Plastic Surgery. Botox or Dysport are used to reduce wrinkles of the forehead and around the eyes. Smile lines around the nose and mouth can be reduced by dermal fillers such as Restylane or Hyaluronic Acid. There is little to no down time after these injections.

Dermabrasion helps "refinish" the top layers of skin through controlled surgical scraping. Treatments of dermabrasion soften the sharp edges of irregularities in the surface of the skin, which gives the skin a smoother appearance. Dermabrasion is most often used to smooth out facial wrinkles (i.e. those around the mouth), to improve the appearance of facial skin which may have been scarred by accidents, deep acne or previous surgery. It can also be used to remove pre-cancerous growths called keratoses.

The length of time dermabrasion takes depends on the amount of facial skin that is desired to be treated. The range of time for the procedure could be anywhere from couple of minutes to an hour.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can effectively improve many skin conditions including blotchy pigmentation, sun damage, fine wrinkles and shallow acne scars. There are many different types of peels, each using a different chemical to create a peeling effect. TCA and Jessner peels are the most common used. Several treatments may be needed to obtain your maximum results.

The chemical is applied to your skin and is usually associated with 2-3 minutes of a burning or stinging sensation. This causes the top layer of your skin to dry up and peel off over a period of several days. The new layer underneath has a smoother texture and more even color. Most people take off 5-7 days to recover. The healing process generally doesn’t involve pain but the skin looks like it has had a severe sunburn. Anyone who has had a peel is more sensitive to the sunlight for 6-8 weeks and are encouraged to protect the new skin with sunscreen and hats. This procedure can be performed in the office.

Imperfections can appear on our skin and include wrinkles, scars, brown spots and more. A Fractional Laser can help to improve and remove such imperfections. It works by treating the deep dermis as well as the skins surface. Using a laser microbeam to remove columns of deep tissue into the layers of the skin. This stimulates new collagen growth to improve the appearance of wrinkles, scars and fine lines. A larger laser beam is used on the upper layer of skin to remove dark pigmentation spots and promote new skin regeneration which results in improvement of fine lines and texture.

Following the procedure your skin will appear as though you were sunburned. A skin care regimen will be given by our office in the days after your treatment and as your skin heals. Skin is very sensitive to sunlight after this procedure so sunscreen is necessary to protect your new skin. Continued improvement can be expected for up to six months.
